In depth

Verdict

The value lays with David Junior, who is just preferred over Linngari and Glen Ida. The last named ran as well as could be expected in the Sandown Classic Trial last month and is open to fair bit more improvement. Michael Bell's charge should handle the conditions without too much trouble and a bold bid is anticipated. Linngari put in a solid effort in the Lingfield Derby Trial, where he had to coped well after being hampered at a crucial stage. However, he did not look the most resolute near the finish and may be vulnerable to a stronger battler. Which is where David Junior comes in. The son of Pleasant Tap was always going to find the distance of the 2,000 Guineas counting against him but he held his own until the speedier types kicked on. This extra two furlongs will help David Junior today and he looks great value at the likely odds.
