In depth

Verdict

Cape Vincent can defy an absence to prevail over Noora, Mindset and Patterdale. Cape Vincent has been absent since finishing third to Mutawassel and Destination Dubai at Doncaster last September but runs here in preference to four other engagements this week, and we can assume that he is fully ready to do himself justice. The son of Cape Cross had some lofty entries at one point and may start to make up for lost time here. His main opponent appears to be Noora, but Marcus Tregoning's filly has had plenty of chances and looked devoid of pace when second at York in July. It is a bit disconcerting to see her dropped back in trip, and she is worth taking on. Mindset shaped well on both starts last term and is sure to be placed to good effect soon, but as Luca Cumani's inmates come on for the run normally, she too is opposed. Patterdale has a longer absence than Cape Vincent to overcome, while Mrs Shilling also returns from a break but has been working well we hear. Richard Hannon won this last year so any moves for Superfling would be interesting, but Cape Vincent is taken to progress from last season and gets the nod.
