Verdict
In this mile event, we will side with Langford ahead of Jay Gee's Choice, Wavertree Dream, Habanero and Oddsmaker. Langford catches the eye here. Pulled out of a recent engagement - a race that she had won the previous year - because of the going, she has no such excuses today and, having proven that she can win from a higher mark, has to be seriously considered in this handicap. A return to the level of form that saw the lightly-raced Wavertree Dream just beaten by Thyolo from today's mark in October 2003, would give him a chance, while much as Cello has been raised five pounds for his Bath win, that seemed an improved effort, although it did come on soft going. Jay Gee's Choice is tough and is just three pounds above the mark that saw him beat Namroc (who will by now have run here yesterday) in September. He is afforded plenty of respect too. Omaha City seems to have improved on the all-weather, but needs to maintain that on Turf today. Oddsmaker is now four pounds below a mark from which he won a year ago and, having run well over a longer trip at The Curragh last time, and he is afforded plenty of respect. Habanero is edging towards a winning mark and, having won over course and distance last time, he also gets respect, while Star Of Light might improve for dropping back in trip from his latest run, although overall he still has something to prove. Majorca lost his way after two wins last June, on the basis of which you could certainly fancy him, while overall, the others couldn't be given strong claims from their current marks, although Snap could improve for the step up in trip. This returns us to Langford, who gets the vote.
