Verdict
In an interesting handicap, the vote goes to Self Respect ahead of Gibraltar Bay, Indian Pipe Dream, Pocketwood, Baddam and Discomania. Gibraltar Bay is now one pound better off for the half-length he beat Self Respect at Windsor over 12 furlongs in April. However, the selection has since gone on to score, albeit it narrowly, at York. He can continue to progress from there, a point we hope he will prove over this longer trip tonight. Detroit City was very progressive on the all-weather through February and March but failed to extend it to the Turf at Doncaster last time, although he could improve on that debut grass run. However, he has nearly six lengths to find with Indian Pipe Dream on the basis of that Town Moor effort, although he is five pound better off at today's weights. The form looks pretty solid too, with the fourth from the race, Planet, having won at Goodwood on Saturday. We have to add, though, that Pocketwood is now two pounds better off for the three-and-a-half lengths he finished behind Indian Pipe Dream in the same race. Make of it all what you will. Baddam won off a mark of 66 at Nottingham last time, looking as though staying was his game, and Sandown's uphill finish should suit him today. However, he is eight pounds worse off for the three lengths and a head that he finished ahead of Discomania in that race, but might be able to confirm the form. However, he rates a danger to the selection which, once again, is Self Respect.
