Verdict

It is a warm welcome back to the track for last year's Derby winner, North Light, and he can score from Mubtaker and Punctilious. Much as the Sir Michael Stoute-trained selection will be sharper for this race, one that will be run over shorter than his optimum trip, he'll be fit enough to do himself justice and should go well. The 2003 'Arc' runner-up, Mubtaker, has had only three runs since that race but, reported to be well by his handler, represents a strong opponent if at or near his top-class best. Last season's Oaks third and Irish Oaks runner-up, Punctilious, should do well this year and, with her stable in form now, she should run a solid race. The other pair have a bit to find on what they have so far achieved to score, which returns us to North Light, who gets our vote in the Brigadier Gerard Stakes.
