In depth
Verdict
Pancake ran a bit flat last time out at Cheltenham but he faces nothing of that quality today so he gets the nomination ahead of Irish Guard and Carnival Town. The last two will find it tricky to concede weight to the selection, however both should be fighting it out for place money at least. Jonjo O'Neill's Carnival Town had been running consistently prior to disappointing against Sir Jimmy Shand last time out at Newbury but we will give him another chance today. He will be thereabouts if running his race, as will Irish Guard who will also have to forget a below par run last time. He was pulled up when blatantly not lasting home, and with the major drop in trip today, he should be in the shake-up. The rest appear to start at big odds, although Open Season could be interesting if fit enough after a hefty absence. Phillip Hobbs Pancake drops in grade and steps up in trip today. He was staying on in that Grade two contest at Cheltenham and should cope with this trip sufficiently well. He handles the ground with aplomb and secures the confident nomination.
