Verdict
A competitive start to the night's proceedings with plenty of the 14 runners holding claims including Lazzaz, Giko and Cool Spice but narrow preference is for Saxe-Coburg, who has shown improved form for the step up to this trip recently. The son of Warning was tackling this distance for the first time when winning a selling handicap over course and distance last month. Not beaten far on a return visit to the track over the same trip subsequently, Gerald Ham's six-year-old has every chance of recording a second course win of the campaign. Top weight Cool Spice is a consistent performer but probably needs a little assistance from the handicapper. Lazzaz has yet to prove that he truly stays this far and a bigger threat to the selection may be recent Warwick scorer Giko, who was not disgraced at Salisbury last time. Katiypour and Major Attraction are others worthy of a mention, while market moves for either Christmas Truce or Short Change would be of interest but we are happy to stick with Saxe-Coburg, who gets the vote.
