        Verdict

        The first division of a fairly competitive handicap and a chance is taken on Mystic Man, who can make a winning all-weather debut. The five-year-old showed improved form last term to record back-to-back wins at Carlisle and Hamilton before acquitting himself well in better company and starts the season on a reasonable mark. Headland took full advantage of an ease in grade to score over course and distance late last month but will find this tougher off his revised mark while Better Off is another who could struggle at this level after landing a weak affair at Southwell last time. Peter Hiatt's team is in good order at present so Pips Song could go well despite an absence while Desert Fury is an inconsistent sort but is capable of going close if in the mood.
