In depth

Verdict

An open-looking contest where the return to a mile might be enough to see Metal Madness get his nose on front again, while others for the short list look to be Kayflaa, Ejeed and Turtle Dove. Metal Madness scored over this trip at Thirsk two starts ago, but a 6lb rise and the drop to 7f proved beyond him last time. The return to a mile and a drop of 1lb again gives him a more realistic chance here and with little else in much form we'll side with him. Kayflaa showed promise in a Wolverhampton maiden in March but has been well held in handicaps since. She has now been dropped 6lb by the assessor and that can help her get more competitive. Ejeed is definitely worth a look in the market as a potential 'plot' horse. John Gosden's colt has done little in three maidens so far and makes his handicap debut from a mark of 65, which won't be too taxing if he has any ability. Turtle Dove has a bit to find with Metal Madness on their Thirsk running and probably needs a drop before winning, while the same can be said of stablemate Sistos Fascination, who was beaten in a claimer last time. Little else makes much appeal and we'll take a chance on Metal Madness.
