Former Springbok brought in to plug leaky defence

The Lions have turned to former South Africa winger Ray Mordt to plug their leaky defence. The winless Johannesburg franchise have so far conceded a staggering 43 tries in eight games this season - with president Kevin de Klerk promising to take action after the latest defeat to the Reds. That has seen Mordt, who also played rugby league for Wigan, brought in as defence coach for the rest of the season, Mordt will now work alongside head coach Dick Muir, with his first task to tighten the defence ahead of the visit of the revitalised Sharks. "The guys have responded well to what I've said to them, but the Sharks will pose a number of defensive challenged to the guys on Saturday," said Mordt, who scored 12 tries in 18 Tests, including a hat-trick against the All Blacks. "They've had a good month and it'll be on match-day where these guys are tested, not on the training ground."
