Sackey injury fears allayed

Paul Sackey has a calf muscle problem but should be fit for England's RBS Six Nations fixture against France.

England winger cleared of bone damage

Paul Sackey's leg injury is not as serious as first feared and the Wasps winger should be fit for England's RBS Six Nations fixture against France on March 15. Sackey limped out of England's 14-13 defeat to Ireland at Croke Park last Saturday with an apparent ankle injury, but X-rays have subsequently revealed no bone damage and that the problem is confined to his left calf muscle. Along with fly-half Toby Flood, who suffered a minor dead leg, he will continue to receive treatment while the rest of the squad take two days off. It is understood both players will be available to take on France at Twickenham.

Salvage operation

After defeats to Wales and Ireland, England must beat Les Bleus if they are to finish in the top half of the championship table. The starting XV on duty in Dublin will reconvene for three days' training in Yorkshire on Wednesday. The change of base was pre-planned and designed to freshen things up with two rounds of the Six Nations remaining. The other 17 members of the elite squad have been released to play for their clubs this weekend.
