Transfer news, rumours and gossip from Old Trafford; summer transfer window opens on June 10 and closes at 11pm on September 1
Saturday 13 August 2022 11:30, UK
Wrapping up the Man Utd transfer news, rumours and gossip in the 2022 summer window.
Sources close to the Stuttgart striker Sasa Kalajdzic claim he wants to move to Manchester United.
Austria international Kalajdzic has entered the final year of his contract and is thought to be one of a number of strikers United are looking at.
Austria Head Coach and former United interim manager Ralf Rangnick said Kalajdzic's development would not be harmed if he stayed at Stuttgart.
However, at 25, the player feels the time is right for a new challenge.
Paris Saint-Germain are looking to sign a forward this month but at this stage they are unlikely to follow up their initial interest in Marcus Rashford.
Manchester United are relaxed about the situation because Rashford is committed to the club and he effectively has two years left on his contract - one year plus an option for another year.
Rashford's representatives are believed to have held talks with PSG last week.
PSG have already signed players such as Renato Sanches, Vitinha and Hugo Ekitike this summer. They are in talks to sign Fabian Ruiz from Napoli and any more arrivals are likely to depend on more players leaving the club.
PSG have declined to comment on the reports in France this evening linking them with a move for Rashford.
Manchester United are yet to find an agreement on personal terms with Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot.
The clubs have an agreement in principle worth £15m, but there is still work to be done.
Rabiot, who joined Juventus as a free agent in the summer of 2019, is in the final year of his contract and has fallen out of favour at the Italian giants.
Sky Sports News has been told Erik ten Hag is very keen on the player and that there is "full alignment" between the manager and the recruitment department over the signing.
United have not given up on signing Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong but are growing increasingly frustrated with the hold up at the Barcelona end. They continue to look at other targets.
Sky Sports News senior reporter Dharmesh Sheth:
"Manchester United have been frustrated with their summer business so far and I just wonder if they're in for another frustration with Adrien Rabiot.
"There's still no agreement on personal terms between United and Rabiot's mother Veronique. They're still apart with regards to what United are prepared to pay in personal terms and what Rabiot wants in terms of wages.
"There is an agreement in principle between the club for around £15m.
"Normally, that is the most difficult part of the deal to do but there have been a number of examples where the deal has been done between clubs - Amadou Onana to West Ham is a perfect example - but the transfer hasn't happened this summer.
"The personal terms have proven to be a stumbling block. This deal is not done yet."
Manchester United are preparing a move for £35m-rated PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo.
United boss Erik ten Hag, who shares the same agency as Gakpo, is keen on signing the 23-year-old to boost his attack.
Gakpo, currently managed by former United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, has emerged as a more long-term solution to the lack of quality options in the forward department.
The Netherlands international is a product of PSV's academy and scored 21 goals in 47 games last season.
PSV's stance has been if a club with strong financial resources come in, it is implausible to retain their star players.
Sky Sports News senior reporter Dharmesh Sheth:
"Manchester United are definitely in the market for a forward. We've mentioned in the past 24 hours PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo.
"Erik ten Hag knows him very well from the Dutch league but with this one they might need to wait for a while as PSV don't want any kind of distraction before they play Rangers in the Champions League play-offs.
"I can't see them doing any business on Gakpo before that tie. At the very least, they'll wait to see what their Champions League fate will be. Depending on where they are, that might dictate what they do with Gakpo."
Manchester United will not be pursuing a deal for Bologna striker Marko Arnautovic.
United had a bid of £7.6m rejected and were expected to go back in with an improved offer, but have decided to move on to other targets.
The asking price for the 33-year-old is believed to be more than what United were prepared to pay.
Following United's decision to pull out of a deal for Arnautovic, they have been offered a number of strikers including Atletico Madrid's Alvaro Morata.
Norwich City's Max Aarons could become a possible solution as Manchester United look into options at right-back.
He has been a historical target for them - and has been assessed by two other top six clubs previously - but it remains to be seen how their interest develops.
Another transfer window blow for Manchester United as striker target Benjamin Sesko has joined RB Leipzig in a £20m deal.
The 19-year-old Slovenia striker was in great form for RB Salzburg last season and has signed a contract until 2028.
Sesko will be loaned back to Salzburg for the forthcoming season before joining the Bundesliga club in 2023.
Gary Neville has called on Cristiano Ronaldo to speak publicly about his future at Manchester United, believing the "messy" situation has caused an unwanted distraction for new manager Erik ten Hag heading into the new season.
Ronaldo reportedly wants to leave United in order to play for a club competing in next season's Champions League, but Neville maintains the Portuguese should clarify his position to supporters at a time when the club are seeking some much-needed stability.
Speaking on Friday Night Football, Neville said: "The Ronaldo situation is distracting. You saw Ten Hag in the press conference on Friday having to answer questions about it.
"The fact Anthony Martial has got injured and he is the only other centre forward, and he actually was going to leave the club six months ago.
"I'm a little bit disappointed in him because he's letting the manager go into those press conferences. Cristiano Ronaldo is now a good age. He's been the greatest player in the world along with Lionel Messi for the last 10 years. He's got all the experience in the world.
"Would it be too much to ask for him to come out and do an interview to clear things up, tell us what he's actually thinking and what actually is happening?
Crystal Palace are interested in re-signing Aaron Wan-Bissaka on loan from Manchester United.
The 24-year-old right-back signed for United from the Eagles in 2019 for £50m, but has struggled for consistency at Old Trafford.
United are thought to be "open minded" about Wan-Bissaka's short-term future although they would be happy if he was still their player come the end of the window, but are also mindful of what would be best for the defender.
Manchester United still feel there is a deal to be done for Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong.
United are keeping alternatives "warm" but will not be pulling the plug on a deal for the midfielder just yet.
Manchester United are considering alternatives to Frenkie de Jong as Erik ten Hag looks to resolve his search for midfield reinforcements ahead of the new Premier League season.
United have a long-standing interest in Ruben Neves, who has made 212 appearances for Wolves, scoring 24 times.
Speaking in April, Wolves boss Bruno Lage says the club have slapped a £100m price tag on Neves amid rumoured interest from United, Arsenal and Tottenham.
Manchester United have confirmed the £56.7m signing of Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez on a five-year contract.
United have paid a guaranteed €57.37m (£48.3m) for the Argentina international, with an additional €10m (£8.4m) in add-ons agreed between the two clubs. The move sees Martinez link up again with former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag, who signed him for the club in 2019, at Old Trafford.
The 24-year-old has signed a five-year contract in Manchester, with the option of a further 12 months, which would take him beyond his 30th birthday.
Manchester United have completed the signing of Christian Eriksen on a three-year deal following a rigorous medical.
The 30-year-old has strengthened Erik ten Hag's midfield options at Old Trafford after opting against remaining at Brentford, where he enjoyed an impressive stint on loan last season.
Denmark international Eriksen will not join United's pre-season tour of Australia due to the long flight involved from the UK.
