In depth
Verdict
A tough handicap where a chance is taken with Night Spot, who appeals as the value choice over Credit and Mr Jack Daniels, who are in fair form and should not be too far away at the finish. Top Spec and Hawkit are others from in-form yards that are entitled to respect and cannot confidently be ruled out. Whereas Gretna has been below par since her reappearance and the fitting of blinkers for the first-time hardly inspires confidence. She, like at least a handful of the remainder, is best watched until she shows something more. Hermitage Court and Killmorey are the least experienced in the field and are also passed over today. The latter has a lot of improvement to find, while Hermitage Court is an imposing individual that should give his connections plenty of enjoyment now that he is race fit. However, the handicapper has taken no chances with this American-bred and a mark of 84 looks a little harsh for one so inexperienced. There are no such concerns about Credit, who rid himself of his maiden tag here in May and proved himself capable of being effective when winning over this trip at Windsor last Sunday. He does have a little to prove under a penalty though and is reluctantly passed over in favour of Night Spot, who has improved since being upped in trip and looks worth another chance to come good. The form of his latest start gives him a slender edge over Mr Jack Daniels, who could give Night Spot the most to do if his recent exertions have not taken too much out of him.
