In depth

Verdict

Willie John Daly can defy topweight at the expense of Society Affair, General Duroc and Venture To Fly. Willie John Daly has been profitable to follow for placepot backers at least this season, but was out of luck in Listed company at Aintree when falling at the sixth flight. It was too early to say whether he would have justified favouritism but he would surely have been involved in the finish and gets a chance to atone here. The extra distance should not be a worry and despite the fact that he carries topweight, Philip Hobbs' charge is not that badly treated. Society Affair gets over a stone from the selection so should make his presence felt based on his battling win at Huntingdon where he appreciated the step up in trip. General Duroc had the testing conditions to suit when opening his account for the season at Kelso and may just be found wanting here, especially against Venture To Fly who is much better off at the weights now. Tobesure always seems to be there or thereabouts without coming good but Effectual should not be ruled out on what is only his second start of the campaign. In need of the run at Exeter, he is extremely well-handicapped on form of old and can play a part. Willie John Daly is tough though and will be hard to beat.
