Verdict

An open race that sets the criterion for the rest of a tricky card at Redcar can go to Pro Tempore, who just edges preference over stablemate Branston Lily, while the Mark Johnston-trained Exit Smiling, who sets the standard on the official BHB figures for the race, has a similar profile to the selection and should appreciate the ease in grade today. Countrywide Sun is another to throw into the mix, as he had shown that a race of this nature is within him before failing to see out the mile for whatever at reason at Yarmouth last month. However, like a few of the rest, he has been a little hit or miss up to press and cannot confidently be relied upon to give his all in a finish. Branston Lily has some course experience to her name and looks sure to appreciate the first try at the trip. However, she may need a little more time and could be one to bear in mind for a minor handicap if she stays in training next year. Therefore, we switch to Pro Tempore, who is fancied to finally deliver on the promise he showed in his early starts. Seven furlongs ideally suits this daughter of Framm and she is expected to have a little more of a finishing kick than the rest today. Exit Smiling is fancied to pose our hope the most problems.
