Verdict

It’s very disappointing that only four runners have stood their ground for a mid-season championship race with huge prize money and rank outsider El Drama will collect more than £32,000 even if he finishes last. Mishriff has won twice on heavy going and was in terrific form at the start of the year, winning the valuable Saudi Cup in Riyadh and the Dubai Sheema Clasic in Meydan. But he was well behind ADDEYBB in the Champion Stakes at Ascot last year and William Haggas’ gelding is a top-class performer when there is give in the ground. He won the Queen Elizabeth Stakes in Australia for the second time in April and is more than capable of giving the French 2000 Guineas and Derby winner St Mark's Basilica a race in what is sure to be a tactical affair.
