Verdict

A very competitive handicap with most having some sort of chance. Orbaan looks a better bet than stablemate Escobar having failed to get the run of the race last time at Newcastle. Bedouin's Story found 7f too short at Ascot but Maydanny ran a shocker in the Royal Hunt Cup when behind a number of these. The other Mark Johnstone runner, Marie's Diamond, is more interesting as he runs in a handicap for the first time having won twice in Listed company. MONTATHAM is 9lb higher than when winning this last year but he goes well fresh so an absence since finishing third in a Listed race at Doncaster in March, when ahead of both Trais Fluors and Beat Le Bon, isn’t a concern. William Haggas’ grey has the class to come out on top again. Acquitted will have to overturn Ascot running in the spring with Escobar but Magical Morning will strip fitter for his comeback run and the unexposed Ransom should be competitive at this level.
