In depth
Verdict
Smiths Landing put up a much-improved performance to win in handicap company at Hexham last time, and is taken to get the better of Gastornis in the getting out stakes. Sue Smith's gelding seemed to appreciate the better ground he encountered that day and the win will have done his confidence no end of good. Gastornis is a gutsy type who finished clear of the rest when second to Trbal Dispute at Kelso last time and should once again give a good account. Best of the rest should be Dene View, who returns to hurdles having lost his way over fences lately.
