Aviva Premiership new boys Bristol have signed former England fly-half Shane Geraghty from London Irish with immediate effect.

Bristol have serious injury problems at No 10, with Tusi Pisi out for four months with a groin problem, and Callum Sheedy (hamstring), Adrian Jarvis (calf) and Gavin Henson (dead leg) all currently on the sidelines.

Bristol boss Andy Robinson said: "Shane brings with him a knowledge of top-level rugby and an understanding of the rigours and demands of Premiership rugby.

"He can play at fly-half and inside centre, has a good kicking percentage and has the ability to create opportunities through his distribution and footwork.

"We are confident he can add something to us, especially in an area where we are short of players at the moment."

As well as Irish, Geraghty has played for Northampton and Brive while he was capped six times by England between 2007 and 2009.

He said: "I'm pleased to be joining Bristol Rugby and I'm looking forward to working hard and contributing where I can.

"I know just how tough it is to be competitive in the Aviva Premiership, but all the right ingredients are there for the club to be successful.
