The No 8 was a vital man for his team going forward, carrying the ball a total of 15 times making 55 metres in the process, the most for a Scottish forward.

However, it was not just around the park where Denton shone.

The 25-year-old was an integral cog in his country's lineout, on opposition ball as well as their own.

Talking of Denton's performance former Scotland scrum-half Rory Lawson said: "I think today as a carrier he stood out and we are going to see a lot of his carrying. But for me today he also defended well."
