Scotland international centre Mark Bennett is facing up to a year out after undergoing anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery on his knee.
The Glasgow Warriors star sustained the injury playing for Scotland against England in the Six Nations at Twickenham last month and his recovery time is expected to be between nine and 12 months.
It marks a disappointing end to Bennett's time with Glasgow as he is set to leave the club at the end of the season to join Edinburgh.
It was also confirmed that No 8 Josh Strauss will miss the rest of the season as he continues his recovery from the kidney injury he sustained playing for Scotland against France in Paris.
Strauss is set to join Sale Sharks at the end of the season, meaning both players have played their last games for the club.
Glasgow Warriors head coach Gregor Townsend said: "We're disappointed that Mark's time at the club has come to an end in this way, and it also looks like Josh may not play for us again as he continues his graduated return to training.
"We wish both players all the best with their rehab and look forward to having them as part of our wider group for the remainder of the season."
Both players will be at Glasgow's home game against Zebre next Friday night where supporters will get the chance to show their appreciation to them, along with the other players leaving the club this season.
