Gerbrandt Grobler case highlights need to increase bans on drug cheats, says Will Greenwood

The Gerbrandt Grobler case has highlighted the need to lengthen the bans imposed on players caught using performance-enhancing drugs, according to Will Greenwood.
The Sky Sports pundit entered the debate on steroid use in the sport ignited by the signing of the South African to Munster.
In recent weeks, much has been made of Munster's decision to sign the former Racing 92 player, who has previously served a two-year ban for substance abuse.
The debate has raged in Ireland and this week the former Irish international Gordon Darcy said the signing - made in the summer - sent out the wrong message to young players.
"I do believe in life in having second chances," said Greenwood speaking on the Offload. "And I think there is a difference between a young man having a night out and getting it badly wrong with social drugs as opposed to a young man who goes out and gets involved there [with performance-enhancing drugs].
"You are bringing someone in from outside the ranks, a South African who now has the ability to qualify to play for Ireland and I would agree with Gordon Darcy. I've no doubt all the Munster players will come out and defend a player they've got to know.
"But from the outside, I absolutely understand what Gordon Darcy is saying which is - I'm just not sure what this message is saying to young Irish players who churn out back-rowers of absolute world-class ability, to bring in a sort of back-five forward who can play in those slots?
"I think that length (of bans) should be increased and potentially you will have the ability to deny players those contracts that Gordon Darcy is talking about.
"I'm really torn, because then if you bring up the Justin Gatlin theory in athletics and he's had two bans - how is that guy on a racetrack? You know you are taking a competitive advantage and denying others the opportunity to take your slot or get that professional contract.
"So, I could see lengthier bans for adults who knowingly take anabolic steroids to improve their physical performance. I think that length should be increased."
