Leicester Tigers have secured the future of two of their longest-serving players, Matt Smith and Mathew Tait.

The pair, who have nearly 350 Tigers first-team appearances between them, have committed themselves to the Aviva Premiership club on deals beyond the end of this season.

Head coach Matt O'Connor said on the club's website: "Smithy and Taity have proved very valuable members of the squad over a number of years. They are very committed to the Tigers and they're able to play in a number of different roles.

"They also both serve as excellent examples to younger players on and off the field here."

Centre Smith's father Ian also played for the Tigers, featuring nearly 350 times, and he is pleased to have the chance to add to his own 216 appearances.

He said: "It is no secret that I always wanted to play for this club, it means a lot to me and I'm delighted to be able to extend my career here beyond the end of the current season.

"We were very successful under Matt O'Connor in his previous spell here and everyone in the squad hopes we can do that again."
