Catt to lead England

Veteran fly-half Mike Catt will captain England against France in Saturday's World Cup warm-up at Twickenham.

11 changes from Wales clash

England v France, live on Sky Sports 2, Saturday 3.30pm Veteran fly-half Mike Catt will captain England against France at Twickenham on Saturday after Brian Ashton made 11 changes to the side which crushed Wales 62-5 last week. Only prop Andrew Sheridan, scrum-half Shaun Perry, hooker Mark Regan and lock Simon Shaw keep their places against the French in England's penultimate World Cup warm-up match. Number eight Lawrence Dallaglio - a World Cup winner four years ago - will make his first England start for more than three years, packing down in the back-row alongside his Wasps colleague James Haskell and Leicester's Lewis Moody.

Fly-half

Bath's Olly Barkley is handed the No 10 shirt ahead of Sale playmaker Charlie Hodgson, who has not seen action since suffering a serious knee injury while on England duty against South Africa last November. That would suggest that Hodgson is not going to earn a place in Ashton's 30-man squad for France, while Gloucester centre Mike Tindall, who also missed out for the second successive week, must now be considered a doubtful traveller. Bath's Nick Abendanon will start at No 15, with the wing positions filled by Wasps pair Paul Sackey and Josh Lewsey. A powerful-looking bench includes Jonny Wilkinson, Phil Vickery, Martin Corry and Joe Worsley, while uncapped Wasps youngster Danny Cipriani provides options at full-back and fly-half.
Ruled out
Meanwhile, Bristol number eight Dan Ward-Smith has been ruled out of the World Cup because of the serious knee injury he suffered in January. He joined England's training squad this summer, but Ashton revealed on Tuesday: "Even though he's made fantastic progress from where he was, we've both decided he is not quite right yet to compete at this level and he will be leaving the squad this afternoon." Ashton is set to name his World Cup squad on August 13. England: N Abendanon (Bath); P Sackey (Wasps), J Noon (Newcastle), M Catt (London Irish, capt), J Lewsey (Wasps); O Barkley (Bath), S Perry (Bristol); A Sheridan (Sale Sharks), M Regan (Bristol), M Stevens (Bath), S Shaw (Wasps), B Kay (Leicester), J Haskell (Wasps), L Moody (Leicester), L Dallaglio (Wasps). Replacements: L Mears (Bath), P Vickery (Wasps), M Corry (Leicester), J Worsley (Wasps), A Gommarsall (Harlequins), J Wilkinson (Newcastle), D Cipriani (Wasps).
