Glasgow fly-half handed first call-up

Glasgow fly-half Ruaridh Jackson has been called up to the Scotland squad for the RBS Six Nations opener against Wales. The 20-year-old is one of two uncapped players named by Scotland head coach Frank Hadden in the initial 33-man squad for the February 8 clash. Jackson, who can play in a number of positions in the backs, has impressed for the Warriors this season - including in the Heineken Cup clash with Bath. Edinburgh prop Geoff Cross joins Jackson as the fellow new face in the squad, while experienced flanker Jason White has been included despite currently recovering from surgery on his hand. And Hadden believes it will be important to get off to a good start when his side face the defending Six Narions champions at Murrayfield. Hadden said: "I'm delighted by the number of players who are putting up their hands as genuine candidates for international selection. "Momentum is vital in such a short round of matches, so we know the importance of starting well and getting a big Scottish crowd behind us." Scotland squad - Backs: Mike Blair (Edinburgh), Ben Cairns (Edinburgh), Chris Cusiter (Perpignan), Simon Danielli (Ulster), Nick De Luca (Edinburgh), Max Evans (Glasgow), Thom Evans (Glasgow), Phil Godman (Edinburgh), Ruaridh Jackson (Glasgow), Sean Lamont (Northampton), Rory Lawson (Gloucester), Graeme Morrison (Glasgow), Dan Parks (Glasgow), Chris Paterson (Edinburgh), Hugo Southwell (Edinburgh), Simon Webster (Edinburgh).
