New Scotland coach satisfied with first win but warns of Aussie challenge
Andy Robinson said he was satisfied with Scotland's win over Fiji, but warned that they would need a big improvement to challenge Australia next week.
The Scots were largely comfortable as they won 23-10 in their opening autumn international, with tries from Johnnie Beattie and a dubious second from Graeme Morrison, with Phil Godman kicking 13 points.
Robinson was happy to win his first game in charge of Scotland, following on from his disastrous reign as England boss three years ago.
"Very, very satisfied; I thought, the first 35 minutes, we were in complete control," said Robinson.
"They came back into the game and they got that opportunity just before half-time, which is a little bit frustrating, because it was the first time that they looked dangerous on our line."
Frustration
Describing his frustration at seeing Scotland waste chances to make the win more comfortable, he added: "That's what Test rugby's about, to put more points on the opposition when you've got the pressure on.
"We coughed up too many balls.
"We just made a few too many errors, gave a few too many penalties away - easy penalties to give away, which gave back the control to Fiji.
"These are lessons that we've got to learn. The good thing is that we'll be able to develop those plays from a winning start."
Robinson warned though that everyone must improve for next week's biggest test against the Wallabies.
"It going to be a bigger test next week," he added.
"All of us have got to improve by 15%, me as a coach, and players in our build-up next week in order to perform well against and beat Australia."
Difficult
Fiji head coach Glen Ella was missing a number of key players after their clubs refused to release them, meaning he always felt it would be difficult.
"You always felt it was going to be difficult," said Ella. "It's plain to see watching on the field, if you can't win your set-piece ball, you're going to struggle and we certainly did.
"I'm not sure about that try in the second half for Scotland; that looked a bit dodgy to me. It didn't do us any good, there's no doubt about that.
"Full credit to Scotland; they played a fairly structured game and knocked us over."
