Argentina playmaker Juan Martin Hernandez could be set for a return to France after a back injury all-but ended his spell at the Sharks.
Reports from South Africa have claimed the talented fly-half will miss the entire Super 14 season with the problem.
Hernandez, who missed the autumn internationals through injury, only joined the Sharks in the summer on a year-long deal.
Although he initially played for Natal in the Currie Cup, he is unlikely to turn out for the Super 14 franchise.
Racing Metro are believed to be in pole position to bring the former Stade Francais No.10 back to France.
The 27-year-old scored more than 500 points for Stade during five years at the club.
