Gloucester centre signs on until 2012

Gloucester centre Tim Molenaar has been rewarded for an excellent first season with a contract extension which will keep him at the club until June 2012. The 29-year-old has been a revelation since joining the Cherry and Whites from Championship side Nottingham last August. Molenaar has made 19 starts and eight appearances from the bench, forming impressive midfield partnerships with both Eliota Fuimaono-Sapolu and Mike Tindall. His powerful running and solid defence have quickly made him a crowd favourite at Kingsholm. And head coach Bryan Redpath revealed he had no hesitation in offering the New Zealand-born centre a new deal. "Considering his late arrival with us and the fact that he missed preseason, Tim's had an outstanding season," he told the club's official website. "Various injuries in the backline have meant that he's had to partner different people in the midfield but he's risen to the challenge and genuinely improved as a player as the season has progressed. "We're delighted that he's committed himself to the club for the season after next, particularly with 2011 being a World Cup year when strength in depth will be very important."
