Quintet impress on trial

Rotherham have bolstered their squad on the eve of the new season with the signing of five players. Head coach Andre Bester has handed contracts to Sean Dougall, James Sandford, David McGregor, William Durant and Neil Spence after the quintet impressed on trial. Flanker Dougall, lock Sandford and hooker McGregor are former graduates from Ulster's academy, while 19-year-old Durant came through the ranks at Western Province. Spence is well known at the Titans having spent eight seasons at the club before being released in 2004. The flanker has had previous stints with Hull, Harrogate and Bradford & Bingley, while he has been capped by England Counties. Bester has admitted he is still looking to add to his squad, however he won't be rushed into any decisions. "There is still some money to spend but I will only sign players if I can see that they will improve the team," said Bester. "I've put this squad together and the success or failure of it reflects on me and I take full responsibility for that. "I am never satisfied because that would make me complacent but I have seen enough to suggest that we will be very competitive. "I have always said that my sides take six months to get off the ground but I am a better coach than I was last time around and I hope that we can make that process happen quickly."
