South Africa flanker could return despite announcing retirement
Aironi have kept the door open for Gareth Krause despite the flanker's announcement that he will retire at the end of the season.
The South African has revealed he will quit due to uncertainty over the Italian Federation's quota systems.
The former Springboks Sevens player said: "The indecision of the Italian Federation about the rules on the use of foreigner players bring me to take this decision that I think to be the best one for me in this moment."
However Aironi have not ruled out a return for Krause should the issue be resolved.
Director of rugby Franco Tonnil said: "In Viadana, Gareth confirmed that he is a great player.
"Probably he is one of the best foreign players to come to Italy in the last five years.
"The door will stay open for Gareth: if rules change or if Aironi will need help during the season, he could be back in Viadana. Meanwhile, we just can thank him for his behaviour on and off the pitch".
