Argentina coach handed two-year deal on the back of World Cup
Argentina coach Santiago Phelan has been given a new two-year contract after leading the Pumas to the quarter-finals of the World Cup.
'Tati' Phelan's side finished second behind England in Pool B but were eliminated by host nation and eventual winners New Zealand in the last eight.
The Pumas are currently ranked seventh in the world and will make their debut in a major annual competition next year when they join Australia, New Zealand and South Africa in the new southern hemisphere tournament which is replacing the Tri-Nations.
"Tati's appointment as trainer confirms our interest in ratifying his tenure, which was extremely satisfactory from various points of view," Argentine Rugby Union (UAR) president Luis Castillo said.
"Now is the time to continue working to improve day-by-day and face a new calendar with a lot of activity."
Fellow former Pumas Fabian Turnes, Mauricio Reggiardo and Marti Gaitan will stay on as Phelan's coaching staff.
Daniel Hourcade has been confirmed as coach of the Pampas XV, a reserve side that won South Africa's Vodacom Cup in 2011.
