Edinburgh's Cornell Du Preez faces lengthy lay-off after ankle surgery

Edinburgh back-row Cornell Du Preez has undergone surgery after suffering a broken ankle in Saturday’s win over Dragons at Murrayfield.

The South African was taken to hospital after sustaining the injury in the Guinness PRO12 fixture and is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

A club statement read: "Now back in the care of the Edinburgh Rugby medical team, Cornell's progress will be monitored over the next few weeks to enable a timeline for recovery to be put together.

“Aside from the usual bumps and bruises consistent with such an encounter, there were no further significant injuries from Saturday's game.”

Du Preez joins an injury list which also includes Carl Bezuidenhout and Wicus Blaauw, who are sidelined with knee injuries, while Neil Cochrane is recovering from a hamstring problem    

Edinburgh are preparing for Friday’s European Rugby Challenge Cup opener against Bordeaux Begles at Stade Andre-Moga.
