Wales scrum-half Gareth Davies will miss the autumn internationals after being ruled out for 12 weeks with a knee injury.
Davies, last year’s top league try scorer for the Scarlets, is not expected to return until the New Year after damaging his posterior cruciate ligament.
The 24-year-old, who will not require surgery, will miss his country’s home games with Australia, Fiji, New Zealand and South Africa next month.
He is also set to miss four rounds of the European Rugby Champions Cup which begins on Sunday.
Scarlets coach Wayne Pivac told Wales Online: “Gareth is a strong player for us and last season he was the league’s top try scorer.
“Along with Ken Owens and Regan King, they are three front line players who have been missing for us.
“All those players for us are a blow. But we have to focus on the guys who are available and make sure we put our best foot forward.”
The Scarlets have Aled Davies and Rhodri Williams at their disposal for their European opener against Toulon at the weekend.
They will also be missing centre Gareth Owen who has a hamstring problem. With Regan King still missing, Fijian wing Michael Tagicakibau is expected to start in midfield.
Meanwhile, the Llanelli club have denied holding talks over signing Wales duo Jamie Roberts and Dan Lydiate from Racing Metro.
