Irish rugby star Alison Miller has been named Sportswoman of the Month for March.

The Portlaoise winger claimed a staggering 82 per cent of the public vote to win the poll ahead of England striker Lianne Sanderson and heptathlon rising star Katarina Johnson-Thompson.

The 31-year-old, who scored a try in Ireland’s historic World Cup victory over New Zealand last summer, was a stand-out performer in the Women’s Six Nations, finishing as the competition's leading try-scorer in Ireland’s title-winning triumph.

Miller scored a hat-trick of tries in a record-breaking 73-3 victory against Scotland in Ireland's final Six Nations game, a result which helped edge out France on points difference in the Championship table.

Miller has an excellent scoring pedigree, having represented Ireland at as a youth level athlete in addition to winning All-Ireland gymnastics, basketball and hockey medals prior to her try-scoring debut against Italy in 2010.
