A man was struck by a train at Twickenham station after the opening game of the Rugby World Cup on Friday night.
The man fell onto the track at about 11pm as thousands of fans made their way from the stadium to the station following England's 35-11 win over Fiji, with British Transport Police saying he suffered head and leg injuries, although London Ambulance said he is not believed to be critically ill.
Twickenham station was evacuated as the man was treated before he was taken to St George's Hospital in Tooting, causing severe transport delays.
Passengers with train tickets were allowed to use them for local bus services instead - but the station did eventually re-open.
A British Transport Police spokesman: "At this stage it is unclear exactly how the man came to fall on to the tracks and officers are working to determine the full circumstances."
A spokeswoman for South West Trains said: "Our immediate thoughts are for the welfare of the person involved."
