Rugby fans will be able to catch Europe's finest from a new angle as Ref Cam comes to the Heineken Cup.
Rugby fans will be able to catch Europe's finest from a revolutionary new angle as Ref Cam comes to the Heineken Cup. Sky Sports has already trialled Ref Cam to great applause in the Championship and will now add this cutting edge technology to our unrivalled Heineken Cup and Amlin Challenge Cup coverage. The Ref Cam is smaller than an iPhone and is strapped onto the referees chest in a Velcro harness. During the match it gives close up footage of scrums, lineouts, rucks and mauls with sound and vision. It provides a unique perspective on the job of a referee, as well enhancing the coverage and taking the viewer right to the heart of the action. The RFU have since used the technology for referee development by using the footage during training. Working together with the ERC, Sky Sports will trial the technology during this weekend's European rugby union coverage during the Leinster v Biarritz Amlin Challenge Cup semi-final. This will be a first for European rugby coverage. It will then be used again on Saturday during the Saracens v Toulon Heineken Cup semi-final live from Twickenham.
