Scrum-half on stand-by for Scotland test

Ireland have drafted scrum-half Peter Stringer in as cover for Tomas O'Leary ahead of Sunday's RBS Six Nations clash with Scotland. O'Leary was struck down with a back spasm during the lead-up to Ireland's match with France on February 13 and is still feeling the effects of the problem. The 27-year-old managed to play though the 25-22 defeat at the Aviva Stadium but the injury flared up after the match and he has failed to shake off the complaint. Stringer will now remain with the squad until O'Leary, who has been given 24 hours to see if the symptoms clear up, satisfies the Ireland medical staff. The news comes after coach Declan Kidney added eight players to the 22 who were on duty for the defeat to Les Bleus. That list includes Andrew Trimble, Tommy Bowe, Denis Hurley, Gavin Duffy, Tony Buckley, Mick O'Driscoll, Donnacha Ryan and Rhys Ruddock.
