Newcastle forward Calum Green's disciplinary hearing has been adjourned until Tuesday after he was cited for allegedly biting an opponent.

Green appeared before an independent disciplinary panel on Wednesday following an incident in Newcastle's Premiership game against Sale last weekend that also involved Sharks hooker Rob Webber.

But the Rugby Football Union said the hearing has been adjourned until April 2 after the panel directed that further medical evidence should be obtained.

If the charge is proved against Green, he could face a minimum 12-week ban.

Panel chair Ian Unsworth QC said: "The panel has directed that further independent medical evidence be obtained.

"The hearing of this matter will now commence next Tuesday evening.

"The panel directs that the player, Newcastle Falcons, Sale Sharks and the RFU are to make no further comment until the case has concluded.
