Step up for former England U18s captain
Lock forward Glen Townson has joined Newcastle on a two-year deal from Championship side Doncaster Knights.
The 23-year-old former England U18s captain and Sale Sharks academy star made 32 appearances for Doncaster this season.
Falcons head coach Alan Tait, said: "Glen is a huge physical specimen who has been getting great reviews across the board in the Championship, helping Doncaster to reach the end-of-season play-offs.
"As well as the nuts and bolts of his line out and scrummaging game, he also offers a big ball-carrying threat and strong defence.
"There were a number of other Guinness Premiership teams after Glen, but he has chosen to come to Kingston Park and we're delighted he has made that call.
"He attended our game against London Wasps where I had a good sit down with him, and our conditioner Andy Smith put him through his paces in the gym.
"I've spoken to Lyn Howells his head coach at Doncaster, who I have great respect for, and Lyn rates Glen as an outstanding prospect who is at just the right stage to break through to the Premiership scene.
"With the likes of James Hudson, Tim Swinson and Filipo Levi already at the club Glen will add significant competition for a starting spot in the second row, as we continue to build on our solid forward foundations for the coming campaign."
