Harlequins have signed loosehead prop Cameron Holenstein.

The South African joins from French Top 14 club Pau, with the length of the deal not yet confirmed.

Last season Harlequins suffered disappointment in the league as a poor second half of the season saw them finish seventh.

But director of rugby John Kingston is hopeful 21-year-old Holenstein's physical presence will bolster his side's scrum and defence ahead of the forthcoming season.

"I am delighted that Cameron has opted to join Harlequins," he said. "He is a tough, uncompromising, physical individual who will create real competition for places at loosehead prop.

"He has been signed to challenge for a starting place in the not-too-distant future."

Holenstein, who crossed paths with Harlequins' Tim Swiel at the Sharks U19 Currie Cup in 2014, is delighted to have completed his move to the Aviva Premiership.

"I'm really excited to have joined Harlequins," he said. "When the offer came for me to join it was too good to turn down. I'm going to work hard and embrace this amazing opportunity that has been given to me.

"To be able to develop my game around the expertise of Joe Marler and Graham Rowntree is something I'm really looking forward to and I can't wait to get started."
