Gloucester have signed second rower Joe Latta from Super Rugby champions the Highlanders.

The 23-year-old made his Super Rugby debut last season, appearing in five games, and he is the second New Zealand lock to link up with the Cherry and Whites, following Jeremy Thrush's arrival.

Latta, who also has experience in New Zealand's ITM Championship, is a former All Blacks U20 international and Gloucester's director of rugby David Humphreys is pleased to have added him to the squad, with fellow locks Joe Batley and James Hudson missing through injury at the moment.

Humphreys said: "Joe is a talented young player who is learning the game, and who has gained some valuable experience in a hugely talented and hard working Highlanders squad that won the Super Rugby title.

"With Jeremy's arrival at the club, as well as Mariano Galarza being back available soon, we will have some real competition for places in the second row with Elliott Stooke, Tom Savage and Tom Hicks.

"Joe is English qualified which is important, and is looking forward to testing himself in our environment, developing as a player and helping Gloucester move forward."
