Gloucester have announced the departure of head coach Laurie Fisher.

Fisher has been in charge since 2014 and led Gloucester to the European Challenge Cup title a year later, but his side has won just five Premiership matches all season.

The Australian hinted at his impending exit following Saturday's defeat to Harlequins, tweeting: "Time to make room for someone else."

And his exit was announced late on Monday night in a club statement that read: "Gloucester Rugby can confirm that head coach Laurie Fisher has left the club with immediate effect.

"Fisher met with club officials over the past 48 hours and it was mutually agreed that he would leave his position.
