Exiles winger to pursue a career outside rugby

London Irish winger John Rudd has announced he is quitting the sport to pursue a career outside rugby. The 29-year-old only joined the Exiles in October 2009 on an initial six-week contract, however he ended up extending his stay until the end of the season - appearing in 20 games and scoring two tries. However Rudd has now decided to retire from professional rugby to take up a position in the City. Rudd said: "I have been very lucky to have spent the last 10 years playing professional rugby and have played for some excellent clubs during that time. "Playing for the England Saxons, and the Heineken Cup and league winning season with Wasps, were just two of a number of career highlights and I will always be grateful to London Irish for the opportunities and enjoyment I experienced in my final season as a rugby player. I wish Toby and the squad every success in the future. "Although I feel I still had some good rugby years ahead of me, the time is now right for me to pursue an exciting new chapter in my life and I am fortunate to be finishing my career with no major injuries and a host of lifelong friends from the sport."
