Toulon owner Mourad Boudjellal believes Wales full-back Leigh Halfpenny could sign for Wasps rather than return to Wales.

Halfpenny's contract with the European champions finishes at the end of the season, and the British & Irish Lions star has been linked with a move to Scarlets and his former club Cardiff Blues.

His coach at the Blues, Dai Young, is now in charge of Wasps, and Boudjellal says the English club are favourites for his signature - if Halfpenny opts not to extend his stay at Toulon.

"If we have no contract agreed with Leigh in the next week for next season, I think he will be going to Wasps," Boudjellal told The Rugby Paper.

"We are speaking to Leigh and his agent. He has a good proposition from teams in England with Wasps the main one.

"We would like him to stay.

"I don't know whether he will because in France we have some problems with the salary cap. We hope to have some information in the next week."
