Leeds agree short-term deal with young prop

Bath prop Kane Palma-Newport has agreed to join Leeds Carnegie on an initial one-month loan deal. Leeds have been looking to strengthen their front-row options after Phil Swainston ruled out for four months. And the 21-year-old Palma-Newport, who has made nine Premiership appearances for Bath, will go straight into the Carnegie squad for Sunday's Championship clash at table-topping Bristol. Leeds coach Diccon Edwards said: "We are very grateful to Bath for allowing Kane to join us on loan. He will benefit from playing in the Championship with us. "Initially he will join us for a month but we will review that with Bath after the first month. His opportunities at Bath are limited at present but credit must go to them for giving their young players the chance to develop their skills in a tough competition on loan. "He is looking forward to joining up with our squad and a trip back down to the south west this weekend to face Bristol."
