Take a look at 10 of the best tries from the 2014 Super Rugby season.

The 32-year-old former Highlanders half-back has spent the past two seasons playing in the Aviva Premiership with Gloucester.

However the 51-Test veteran will fill the void left in Auckland by Piri Weepu, who himself has left to play in England with London Welsh.

"Jimmy brings competitiveness, plenty of experience and great game awareness which is something we were really looking for," said Blues coach John Kirwan.

"Piri Weepu left a bit of a hole but we think Jimmy's really going to step into that role and be fundamental to the growth of this franchise."

Cowan made more than 100 appearances for the Highlanders, while also racking up a century of appearances for Southland.

And Cowan, who is now playing in the ITM Cup with Tasman, is relishing a return to Super Rugby action.

"I had a great time overseas but I'm really happy to be back in New Zealand and I still have a real hunger and desire to prove myself at the next level," Cowan said.

"I'm excited about moving up to Auckland to join the Blues and feel I can really contribute towards helping them achieve success."
