Cheetahs captain could be back in action in August
South Africa flanker Juan Smith could still be fit to play in the World Cup despite suffering a serious Achilles injury.
The Cheetahs forward underwent surgery on Monday after suffering a partial tear of the tendon just two minutes in to the Super Rugby match with the Bulls.
And although Smith is facing a lengthy spell out, he should be back in action before the World Cup.
Cheetahs doctor Ian Morris told Afrikaans newspaper
Volksblad: "We are planning on having him fit for the World Cup.
"There is definitely a chance that he can recover in time. If everything goes well, six months is not an unreasonable recovery period.
"He will be able to play in August and the World Cup starts at the beginning of September."
