Centre Tim Bateman has returned to New Zealand to sign for the Hurricanes ahead of next year's Super Rugby competition
The 24-year-old, who previously played for the Crusaders, heads to Wellington having enjoyed a spell with Japanese outfit the West Red Sparks.
Bateman, who made 35 appearances over a three-year period for the Crusaders, said: "I'm really excited about signing for the Hurricanes.
"We've thoroughly enjoyed our time here in Japan, but I've been looking to play at a more competitive level again and moving to the Hurricanes has given me that opportunity.
"I've played against the Hurricanes a number of times and I admire the way they play.
"I'm looking forward to moving to Wellington and being part of that environment and putting in some good performances for the team next year."
