Number of rising stars head to Johannesburg
The Lions have been busy recruiting as the Johannesburg outfit step up their preparations for the new Super Rugby season.
Despite high hopes going into the inaugural season of the expanded competition, the Lions managed just three wins and only new-boys Melbourne Rebels had a worse record.
However following their Currie Cup success, the Lions have agreed deals with a number of rising stars to bolster their squad.
Half-back twins Guy and Ross Cronje, 21-year old lock Stephan Greeff, Maties captain Callie Visagie, brothers Whestley and Bradley Moolman, Australian Under-20 scrum-half Eddie Bredenhann and Griquas lock Hendrik Roodt have all made the switch to the ambitious club.
Greeff makes the switch from Western Province, scrum-half Whestley Moolman joins from the Leopards, while Springboks Under-21s centre Bradley Moolman has come through the junior ranks at the Blue Bulls.
Bredenhann returns to South Africa, having been born in Witbank before emigrating to Australia, while Roodt had a previous stint at the Waratahs.
Meanwhile, the Lions have revealed they have not renewed the contract of former South Africa winger Henno Mentz.
