Munster and Ireland supporters are facing an anxious wait to hear the extent of hooker Jerry Flannery's latest injury.

Veteran hooker to learn fate on calf injury later this week

Munster and Ireland fans face an anxious wait to hear the extent of Jerry Flannery's latest injury. The hooker, who has only just returned to action following several months on the sidelines, lasted less than 20 minutes in his comeback game against Toulon in the Heineken Cup on Saturday. He came on as a replacement for Damien Varley, but was forced off shortly before the full-time whistle with a suspected calf injury. The 32-year-old will see a specialist this week, and Munster coach Tony McGahan says his player is "devastated" with the latest injury. "It's certainly unfortunate if it is (a recurrence of the injury) because he has worked so hard to get back," McGahan is quoted in the Belfast Telegraph. "He missed a significant part of last season and this was his first foray back into selection. To be injured in his comeback is devastating for him." Should the injury prove serious, then Ireland coach Declan Kidney will no doubt be forced to leave the hooker out of his squad for the November internationals. Kidney is due to name his squad on Tuesday.
